Born in Sumatra in 1922 and educated at the Sekola Ekonami, Indonesia as well as the University of Hawaii, Mochtar Lubis is a distinguished journalist and author, much respected in both West and East.
Noted for his forthright views, he was imprisoned for over four and a half years and under house arrest for another four and a half years during the Soekarno regime. As will be seen in this book, he remains a fearless upholder of the values and principles which he cherishes, and a devoted lover of his homeland, Indonesia.
