China After The Typhoon is a general interest book which is set in the period between the Cultural Revolution and the Tiananmen Square massacre, a time of relative calm & liberalization. It presents the colorful atmosphere of Chinese daily life - from early morning taichi and Cantonese opera to snake dinners and ox penis soup. It does not, however, ignore the seamy side: forbidden love, forced abortions and public executions.
