In this book Mathematics is treated as a single subject, not a collection of more or less separate topics; as one tapestry, not a series of disconnected threads. As far as possible, and subject to limitations imposed by examination syllabuses, the book provides a continuous stream of topics, and the work of each chapter is used in as many as possible of the following chapters.
Chapters 1 to 16 cover all the topics included in paper 1 of the Additional Mathematics papers of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, while the remaining chapters deal with the Pure Mathematics topic of Paper 2. The book includes the Pure Mathematics topics in the syllabuses of all Additional Mathematics examinations, and most of the new A.S. Level examination. It will also provide a good first year's work for an Advanced Level Mathematics course.
